What Bible Genesis Gap Disapprovers are not Hearing

I’ll pose some highly interesting and often-avoided questions in this article below. First, I want to again make it very clear (having written on many aspects of this teaching before), that fully informed Genesis Gap believers do not base the teaching on a sparse number of very questionable ideas/theories; it goes much deeper. We of this camp do believe in literally six 24-hour days that Adam’s domain was created in (“dominion” – Genesis 1:28 “subdue it”). We do not believe in any type of evolutionary theories as has been falsely claimed (the name for the type most attempted to place the Genesis Gap into, is “Theistic Evolution”). We believe Adam’s/mankind’s domain really does go back only about 6,000 to 10,000 years but not Heaven – The place of God’s Throne, the earth itself or the extremely vast universe.

QUESTIONS:

(1.) If Satan appeared to Adam & Eve, lying/blaspheming against God, saying “You shall not surely die” and saying “God is afraid you’ll become like Gods” (Genesis 3:4-5), BEFORE they acted on it, who was in sin first?

(2.) We know it was man and not a fallen angel who brought death to Adam’s world – Satan now referred to as “god of this present world”; excluding Christians – (II Corinthians 4:4), if the fall of Satan and his fellow rebellious angel-followers was due to him tempting Adam & Eve, why are they loose on earth now (I Peter 5:8, Ephesians 6)?

(3.) Since hell was originally created for Satan and his fallen angels (Matthew 25:41) and yet description of hell’s creation is not found anywhere in the Genesis creation narrative, when could it have been created, generally? [if one says, “it was made for man”, this would indicate that God placed low confidence in his own created image & likeness …mankind.]

(4.) In II Peter 2:4 it says that “angels who sinned”, were “cast to hell” (described as being in “the heart/belly of the earth” – a place one descends to). When could this event have occurred and Adam not be aware of it on his own created domain, plus God coming off his rest (Sabbath) to create hell and cast the rebelling angels there (also not found in the Holy Bible)?

(5.) Last question – There are fallen angels that will be loosed by an angel with the key to “the bottomless pit, during the Great Tribulation period (described in Revelation 9:1-2); where did they come from?

I’ve asked these questions to demonstrate that the Genesis Gap teaching (or theory if you like), is not as simple as saying “these people believe there is a huge space of time between Genesis 1:1-2. I realize people can quote Exodus 20:11, which says: “For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.” but, the words “made” and “created” can mean – MADE from already existing substances or CREATED from nothing. Plus, the passage would appear to be about Adam’s domain; the heavens (not capitalized), referring to the heavens we have traveled in, not to “the third Heaven” where the Apostle Paul visited, when God took him there.

Does it even pass the common-sense test to say God only began creating physical things 6,000 to 10,000 years ago in eternity past? Can Exodus 20:11 include Heaven itself (God’s Holy Abode)? Does it not say that God’s Holy Angels watched and shouted for joy as God laid the very foundations of the earth (Job 38:6-7). The questions in this last paragraph, you could say are simply ‘honorable mentions’. As far as physical evidence, how do you explain to a Sunday School kid as to why stars can be millions, billions or trillions of light-years away? Or, how do you explain to them regarding things such as ice-core samples that Dr. Scott R. Forest was directly involved in (look him up on YouTube he teaches the Genesis Gap as well); core samples revealing 750,000 years of pre-history? Think and answer in your own mind most importantly, or at least think about these things we echo from God’s Word as very strong believers in the Genesis Gap.

Direct Strong Message on the Genesis Gap Bible Doctrine

I have written a great deal in books and have added to my articles here on my website, regarding the subject of “The Genesis Gap” (belief that God destroyed a pre-Adamic creation on earth involving fallen angels). The people who disagree with this doctrine which has a great deal of scripture-backing, in some cases likely believe it is sensationalism – a teaching simply designed to impress or excite people toward a false doctrine. Others believe it is simply a “false doctrine”. My answer to these religious accusations (i.e. They’ll proclaim: “It’s not what my ancestors believed or what my pastor teaches!”), is to point out the fact that the teaching is rather one that Biblically fills-in information that some scholars and teachers have literally anguished over for 100s of years.

Due to the seeming inconsistencies within the scriptures, when there actually are none, some have even turned away from God’s Words, concluding they are allegorical or mythological! Here’s an example: 2 Peter 2:4 states that God “…cast angels that sinned, into hell”. However, other scriptures state that Satan “…walks about on the earth as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.” (I Peter 5:8 and Ephesians 6 “…we wrestle not against flesh and blood…”). So, if there were angels cast into hell that Jesus stated specifically was “….prepared for the devil and his angels.” – (Matthew 25:41), then why is there a satanically-devised system of devils/demons/evil spirits that tempt, oppress and possess mankind, worldwide, every day that currently passes on earth!? Do the anti – Genesis Gap people (young earth creationists) believe there have already been two (2) falls of sinning angels?

Was not Satan a fallen angel in the Garden of Eden, speaking lies and blasphemies against God, to Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:4-5)? NOTE: These were sins on Satan’s part, even if Adam and Eve had not fallen from grace their selves. The logical conclusion is that angels sinned at some point in the distant past because IT WAS NOT Satan’s tempting of Adam and Eve that caused his original fall. Both the 14th chapter of Isaiah and the 38th chapter of Ezekiel state emphatically that Satan (the words also being directed at men in these passages who were under Satan’s power) became a fallen angel due to pride and exaltation and not because he tempted Eve and Adam. This is also obvious by the fact that Satan and the one-third of formerly holy angels under his power of darkness (Revelation 12), are operating under their own gained kingdom on earth (gained by Adam’s disobedience – 2 Corinthians 4:4).

Yes, their eventual destination will be “The Lake of Fire” for eternity but this does not explain the former fall of angels spoken of in Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 28, 2 Peter 2:4, Jude 1:6, etc… . Some evil angels remain in hell currently and will not be released until “The Great Tribulation” (Revelation 9:1-4 – The 7 year period of God’s wrath). So, I would conclude by asking young earth creationists this somewhat lengthy question; Where did all of these devils/demons come from when they were cast into hell at another time for reasons unrelated to Eve and Adam and with neither hell nor angels specifically being listed in the Genesis re-creation narrative, (following Genesis 1:2 when Adam’s/mankind’s domain was being made in 6 literal days – see Job 38:6-7 and Hebrews 2:6-7)?

Genesis Gap Questions Not Answered Specifically by Refuters

Gen gap imageTo explain briefly what The Genesis Gap is; it is belief that there was at least one prior dispensation that transpired on earth, before Adam’s domain was made for him. Lots of websites claim The Genesis Gap to be a “compromise of the scriptures” but with all things considered, is it really a compromise or is it actually an interpretation of many scriptures considered as a whole, with a very high probability of being factual? NOTE: The Genesis Gap, is not a study that is necessary to salvation however, when youth around the world are shown a ‘Mount Everest of evidence’ for an extremely ancient earth and universe, the Holy Scriptures reveal the answers for it. While details are not revealed, the main answer is and when taught as a strong probability, it can very well remove a stumbling block for many millions of people who believe the age of the earth and universe (e.g. we see light from stars many millions of light years away), prove the Holy Bible to be mythological and fairy tales.
I came across a website some time ago that attempted to refute “The Genesis Gap” Bible teaching. I have come across many since as well, that disagree with the teaching. Some are written with strong intellect but great intelligence and superior word-crafting for articles (lots of technical-sounding words), does not answer the extremely important questions as I will list below. When a Bible teacher can adequately show alternative meanings to these questions that are obvious, then I will be one Genesis Gap Proponent who will change my stance to one of believing the earth and universe are only 6 or 7 thousand years old. The scripture in Exodus 20:11 is speaking specifically about what God made in “the six literal days” (Adam’s domain). Notice the word “made” rather than “created” is used. Also compare the Genesis narrative, which does not mention Heaven and the throne of God which were already in existence when God re-made the heaven (dividing of the firmaments and light restored to the sky above earth (the heaven). “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” (Exodus 20:11 KJV)
Did light only exist when God brought it back to the earth? Obviously not! Heaven, the holy place – also referred to by the Apostle Paul as “the 3rd Heaven” had light for eternity-past, in fact the scriptures state that “God is light” (1 John 1:5). It would also be very logical to also believe God had a population of angels in Heaven, long before mankind was created. Since man was “made a little lower than the angels”. You can only make someone lower than someone else who existed first (a predecessor). “But there is a place where someone has testified: ‘What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor and put everything under their feet.” (Hebrews 2:6-8 – NIV) Question 1. Is there any mention of the creation of hell during the six days in Genesis (or even Heaven where God’s throne is)? Question 2. Did God come off of his Sabbath – 7th day to create hell? If not and he created it during the six days – what kind of confidence did that show for those made in his own image and likeness? Question 3. Did angels exist as God laid the very foundations of the earth? (See Job 38:6-7) Question 4. If Satan was a fallen angel when he entered the Garden of Eden (and he was), does this not already prove that his fall occurred previous to The Garden of Eden incident (along with other previously Holy Angels)? Question 5. If Satan did not sin BEFORE Adam, why then was he lying against God and blaspheming him before Adam and Eve also sinned (Gen. 3:4-5)?
Question 6. If an angelic fall of this magnitude occurred during Adam’s domain, why is it not described as happening then? Question 7. Why did Peter say that “the angels that sinned were cast down to hell (past tense – 2 Peter 2:4)” and yet they are not incarcerated there now (Ephesians 6 and 1 Peter 5:8)? Question 8. If the original fall of angels did not involve the earth, why did God make their place of imprisonment in the heart of the earth? Question 9. If hell was not made specifically for fallen angels – not being mentioned at all in the 6 day narrative for Adam’s domain, why did Jesus say hell was “prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matt. 25:41)? Question 10. If God only began creating things, including angels, about 6 thousand years ago, does this mean he was alone for eternity past? The anti – Genesis Gap people place very simple explanations for why the teaching can’t be true and they say it is instead a “compromise/false teaching”. The questions I have listed above are not addressed by them specifically. When they are given answers, they change the premise of the question as kind of an avoidance. When a super-theologian can answer these questions adequately, disproving The Genesis Gap (not just “yes” or “no”), that’s when I will reject the belief that absolutely nothing occurred creation-wise before the six day narrative in the book of Genesis.
Also erroneously stated by attempted Genesis Gap refuters, is that Thomas Chalmers (1780 – 1847) was the first man to teach about pre-adamic happenings. The fact is there were also these teachers, among others named following. The writers of The Targum of Onkelos 2nd Century A.D., Origen (186-254 – “The earth had been cast downwards”), Hugo St. Victor (1097-1141 – “how long did the world remain in this disorder before the regular re-ordering…?”), Benet Pererius (1536 – 1610), Hugo Victor (1097-1141), Denis Pétau (1583 – 1652) and Simon Episcopius (1583-1643) These men wrote about aspects of the Genesis Gap, 100s of years before extremely ancient geology was even discovered. So attempted Genesis Gap refuters need to provide substantial answers (as opposed to the usual religious ones) for all the 10 questions posed. If a reader of this is one who actually believes they have answers, they should write them in article-form and post link to it, as I have done here. I would appreciate a notice of that link (thank you). It is not adequate to answer one question, saying “this one alone refutes the teaching”. That is tantamount to wanting to keep a teaching as a tradition and to reject another, refusing to give adequate reasons for the avoidance.
For many, they base their rejection of the Genesis Gap on what their former family generations believed, what their church teaches in this area or because their favorite theologian (or TV evangelist) disagrees with it. This is one of those Biblical studies that literally requires an individual decision by each person regarding interpretation. I will mention that I personally saw something significant between Genesis 1:1 and 2, in my teen years (I’m now in my 50s) and without anyone pointing it out to me. Each of the 10 questions posed above are stand-alone questions. In other words an opinionated disagreeing answer to one question does not cancel-out the others. After all is considered, the most important truth in God’s Word is this: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
